The Tampa Bay Derby boasts a $400K purse and a fascinating history, with the first running of the event in 1981. The event's inaugural winner was a long shot named Paristo, who beat the odds at 35-1. The race was such a success that it was upgraded to Grade III in 1984 and continued to draw attention over the years.
