Tonight, the Meadowlands has a solid 14-race card with the headliners being New Jersey bred freshman and sophomore trotters. The 0.50 Early Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $50,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 6
4-Fashion Schooner (8/5)-Should offer a tiny price and Tetrick will be headed for the point shortly after the wings fold. If lands on the point easily and gets a breather with a 29 second quarter as in the last 2 starts, she will be posing for the 3rd straight time in the Big M winner's circle.
8-Jiggy Jog S (6-1)-Here is the wildcard, Dunn's pick over #3 and comes off rare break in stride at PcD. It looked like the Svanstedt 3-year-old was locked on the left lane and may have been fatigued on the last turn. Will take a swing the breaking problem was a fluke. Dunn has the gate speed to land in a good seat and should offer a square price. Has hit the board in 9 of 13 at the Big M with 2 pictures.
Race 7
1-Landing Strip (7/2)-Tactical Landing 2-year-old arrives from Mohawk and should fit nicely with this group. The original AMac steers his own and should be a player if minds manners.
5-Chef Rocco (10-1)-Mark MacDonald will drive this Schnittker trainee and he knows the recently gelded freshman. Rocco has the most starts in the field (8) and is still winless. This Walner 2-year-old might have more speed than the others and with a sharp steer could pop at a price.
9-Devilish Hill (3-1)-Had a nice win at PcD with trainer Lucas Wallin between the pipes. Then shipped to M1 and basically trotted around the track leaving from post 8 to finish a well-beaten 7th. Tetrick sticks and will look for a more aggressive steer tonight.
Race 8
1-Misswalner Fashion (3-1)-Flew home from post 10 on 8-6 after breaking in 2 straight in July. Comes off a sharp win at PcD at 2/5 and Tetrick will grab the lines again looking for his 3rd straight picture with this Campbell pupil. Starting from the rail shouldn't hurt, could get on the engine, and make every call a winning one.
2-Penolpe J (7/2)-Toscano 3-year-old is only 2 for 17 lifetime but comes off an impressive win from post 8 last week at the Big M. That was probably the best effort of his career, and the post relief here should help. TMac has options with this draw, and it would be wise to not overlook.
Race 9
1-Robertsin (3-1)-Not sure starting on the rail will be a huge benefit but the race should go through this Muscle Hill 3-year-old. The win on 8-5 was a new lifetime mark of 151.3 and zipped the back half in 55.1. Has won the last 2 starts at M1 has a big chance to make it 3 straight.
2-Testing Testing (4-1) -Came off the bench with a decent effort but wasn't raced aggressively like a 2/5 shot normally would. Thinking there could be a pocket ride happening this time and then sprints home fastest of all.
