Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, October 24, 2022

Yonkers Raceway has a 9-race program ready to go this evening. The feature comes in Race 8, an Open Pace with a $39,000 purse. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6

3-Thor And Dr Jones (9-1)-Raced uncovered for about 5/8's of a mile and finished a game 2nd. Camera shy 4-year-old is only 1-20 at YR and 1-15 this year, normally wouldn't be part of my ticket. But comes off an improved effort and with a smooth steer could surprise with a trip out win.
5-Urban Renewal (7-1)-Going to fade both program chalks (1-2) and will use Dube after rallying from last to pass the one above and win at 19-1. It was the 4th start after a Renaud claim, that barn is posting 28% winners over the past 30 days and the pace should be lively.
6-Brackley Beach (9/2)-Jenn B entry downed the $25k claimers with Boyd at the controls and bumps up with the same pilot. Best to respect, paced the back-half in 56.2 on its own, and could stay good for the 3rd straight picture.

Race 7

4-Whitecookie (2-1)-Was a game winner on the engine at this class on 10-17 and should be a small price here. That was the 1st start after returning from Philly and hadn't raced since 9-23. Comes back in sequence, draws inside, and could get the top without much trouble.
5-Smokin By N (7/2)-Did get a pocket trip but couldn't catch a 1/2 winner who took his 5th straight picture. Nothing to be embarrassed about last week facing a tough winner. Is in good form, has been right there at the finish and won versus this kind at YR on 7-25.

Race 8

1-The Wild Card (5-1)-Came up with a big try after being off 3-weeks. Almost out battled both big chalks down the lane coming up the inside on an-off track. Could get the pocket behind last week's winner (4) and get some revenge.
6-Leonidas A (9/2)-Will toss last, was used early, not sure why, and faded after racing wide in a 1 1/4 mile affair. Should have a different plan tonight at a familiar level. Can come off cover in a race with inside speed and the fractions should be lively.

Race 9

1-Marco Beach (9/2)-Is usually a player versus $40k claimers and raced off cover to finish 2nd. Now makes his 3rd start for new connections and gets Dube in the bike. The driver change should help, Dube knows well. Should race on the point or in the pocket with this post draw and that has worked for this 6-year-old.
6-Benji's Best (5/2)-Burned some money at 3/5 when dropped to this level in last. Benji is only 2-24 on a wet track, was out of step from the word go last week and having the rail was of no benefit. The last 2 starts have been on "good" tracks and may rebound nicely on a dry surface at a much better price.
