Hoosier Park has a 14-race card scheduled and the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11
3-Caesar's Shot (7/2)-Should enjoy the company and meets a beatable field if comes away with a close-up seat. Looking for an aggressive steer and at this class Ross can put this mare in play when the wings fold.
4-ER Super Shady (3-1)-Has been facing tougher and needs a more alert start but does drop to a competitive level. One-move type could get an efficient trip and this post draw should help.
Race 12
1-Always Amazing (2-1)-Good try from the 2nd tier in last to finish 2nd. Followed cover which stalled at the top of the lane, finally got going in the late going and rallied willing. De Long can work a better trip starting on the gate and should be in the hunt at the wire.
4-We Be Jammin (6-1)-Comes off a nice qualifier and could be ready for a big try in the 1st start since 9-2-21. Might be overlooked at the windows and including the 9/5 program chalk (6) there are no standouts in this field.
6-Vel What A Star (9/5)-Did pace the back half in 55.2 last week but couldn't make up ground. Has speed but seems to follow and not pass. Willing to respect connections but doesn't offer any value at the program odds, has an 0-11 lifetime record, and hasn't won here in 8 tries.
Race 13
2-Lupa (2-1)-Oosting takes the lines for the 1st time and will assume the Miller pupil will be forwardly placed. Did close with a .55 back half and should enjoy the company. This and #5 below may look to get the top.
4-Islikeittell (12-1)-Finished about a length behind #2 on 4-14 and has shown good speed late in the mile. If Wilfong can get this 3-year-old in striking range at the head of the lane if could be picture time at a big price.
5-Mach Seelster (5/2)-Stayed inside in all 3 starts and had its best time of 152.3 in the last race to finish 2nd. Has hit the board in the last 2 starts, will look for an aggressive steer and a big try.
Race 14
3-Goldies Rockin (6-1)-Swinging for a price and my thinking is Ross will stay inside and try to be close to the leaders at the 3/4's pole. Could get sucked around and close fastest of all.
4-Tell Me Please (4-1)-Qualified 2 times at HoP in April and then made a winning debut for the Macomber barn. Closed nicely last time and could be in the mix despite stepping up.
7-Fleetmadefordancin (6-1)-Comes off a couple of solid qualifiers at Southern Oaks in Florida and could fire hot off the bench. This Smith trainee banked $35k last year but had only 1 win. Faced better as a freshman and should do well versus this group.
