The road to Santa Anita’s $100,634 Pick 6 carryover pool this Friday, Jan. 19, will go through the 50-cent Late Pick 4 that shapes up this way:

SA 5th race (5:36 p.m. EST) -- Trainer Mark Glatt sends out an uncoupled entry in this 6-1/2F sprint, trying to enhance his 8-for-22 start at the meet. ELTONSINGSANOTHER, the beaten favorite in her last two starts, was pressured inside and out before the 5-wide winner and 3-wide runner-up passed by. She dueled with and finished ahead of a next-out, wire-to-wire winner and lands in an ideal pace controlling spot today if she can get the added distance. Don’t sleep on stablemate JAZZY BOO, who drops out of a useful MSW turf test, adds blinkers and could be well-suited to 6-1/2F after she gathered momentum on the final turn at one mile but faded in the stretch.

SA 6th race (6:08 p.m. EST) -- DANCING SOUL is 0-for-5 on turf, but she showed good speed and held for minor awards in three 5F sprints last year. She dueled a long way and held third in a race at this level won by the odds-on favorite, then bounced back with a victory in a dirt sprint that produced two longshot winners. TEEN DRAMA is 3-for-11 on the lawn and finished a quarter length behind DANCING SOUL when she was claimed for $32,000 three starts back. She should get a lively pace to rally into and is a must use on the ticket. A NEW PEACE, claimed on the class rise to this level two starts back, is a longshot to consider with what appears the right running style in this field.

SA 7th race (6:40 p.m. EST) -- Multimillionaire CZ ROCKET will try to pick up where he left off as a 9-year-old and add to a $1.5 million bankroll at 6F in his seasonal debut. He sustained a wide rally to win in a $70,000 allowance, but three of his rivals were well-beaten in their next start. He might not be favored with Baffert-trained HOPKINS returning from a nine-month layoff off a series of eye-catching workouts over the track. He won the Grade 3 Palos Verdes Stakes and averaged a 98 Beyer speed figure in four sprints at Santa Anita.

SA 8th race (7:12 p.m. EST) -- One of seven entrants will make his seasonal debut a winning one in this $50,000 turf starter allowance. TO SPEIGHT HER, a speedy but lightly-raced 5-year-old, returned from a one-year layoff at Golden Gate with a useful sprint try for trainer Andy Mathis, who is 18-for-83 the last three years with the synthetic track-to-turf angle. He runs 6F for the first time, so take no chances and punch ‘ALL’ in the final leg of the sequence.
