Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, July 8, 2024

Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card. The 0.50 Pick 5 with a $10,000 guaranteed pool begins in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

3-Covered Bridge (6-1)-Faded in last at this level but was used hard to get the top into a 26.3 quarter and a 55.2 half. Looks like good value at the program price of 6-1 after going off at 8/5 last time, and the trip should be kinder tonight.
5-Hellabalou (3-1)-Shipped in from Nfld and faced this kind after being off 16 days between races. Put in an even effort, will look for better this time and has hit the board in 21 of 31 at YR was 9 pictures.
7-Desperate Man (5/2)-Can win from the outside and the pace could be hot. Matt Kakaley can have the 6-yr-old in striking range and could finish fastest of all.

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

2-Coaches Corner (2-1)-Has been battling tough customers and should relish the company. Hasn’t raced since the Gold Cup at Mohawk on June 15 and being off 3 weeks shouldn’t matter. This race probably goes through the Per Engblom pupil.
3-Pound for Pound (6-1)-Faded in last versus this kind after being used hard to get the top. Could land on the point with this post draw and then relinquish to the chalk, Coaches Corner. Worth a swing at 6-1, should be racing near the favorite throughout and does have the speed to win with a smooth journey.

Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)

1-Hunting Zone (8/5)-Bumps up, but from this post will be bet anyway. Will respect chances, but won't offer any value. George Brennan could be on top by the 1st turn or no worse than in the pocket and should be in the hunt at the wire.
3-Frequent Image (3-1)-The Alexander trainee may get revenge tonight on the one above after finishing 2nd. Put in the most work last time leaving from the 8-hole and getting on the engine. Comes back in sequence here, missed a start last time and the 5-year-old may take its 1st picture this year in the 2nd race for new connections.

Race 11 (10:20 PM EST)

1-South Point (2-1)-Joe B steers the Ron Burke 4-year-old who ships in from Pocono and makes it Yonkers debut. Has been facing $40k claimers, should fit, and does have speed. Making the turns is a question mark, but this barn usually puts them in where they can win.
3-That Dog Will Hunt (5/2)-The Huntsville 4-year-old has been claimed in the last 6 starts. Won for trainer Victoria Stratton on 5-30. This will be the 2nd start for that outfit and was stuck with post 7 last time. Does best racing near the top of the stack and should get there in good shape tonight.
6-Lootable (8-1)-Had an even effort in the first start in town. Wasn't bad in that race, stayed inside but did pace the back half in 56.2. Will look for an aggressive try and hope there won't be much betting interest.
