Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, October 21, 2024

Yonkers Raceway begins the week with a 10-race card. The 0.50 Pick 5, with a $10,000 guaranteed pool rolls in Race 5. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (9:00 PM EST)

1-Shazam Bluechip (7/2)-Gets some class relief and has started from the outside in the last 4 races. My guess is Jason Bartlett may want the lead and to control the mile leaving from the rail. The concern is being off since 10-1.
2-Rockin JukeBox (9/2)-Fits well with this group and recent form has been good. Could be more versatile than others, that gives Joe B options. Should be stalking close to the leaders and the pace can be lively. Hopefully won't be bet down and shouldn't be overlooked.
3-Hemsworth N (5/2)-Gets some class relief and has enough early speed to be on top or in the 2 hole around the first turn. Has been off since 10-6 and this will be the 1st start since shipping in from Lex. Looks like a main player if dialed on high.

Race 8 (9:20 PM EST)

1-My Ultimate Byron A (10-1)-Could be overlooked and has battled hard versus this kind. Has won the past 2 times when getting the lead off the gate. Dan Dube should be aggressive leaving from the rail and is well worth a swing at anything close to the morning line price.
4-American Dealer N (7/2)-Classy veteran could win coming off the pace or racing on the lead. Jason Bartlett gets the most out of the Toscano trainee and should be there at the wire with a big try.

Race 9 (9:40 PM EST)

1-JB Gram (2-1)-Went gate to wire from the rail in last and this field is not that salty. Will probably be bet down and will look for the same game plan.
6-Captain Hanover (7/2)-Was claimed back by the Mike Watson barn who had some success with the Captain before. The barn has been cold but comes back in sequence. George Brennan should have the pedal down and battle the program chalk from the start. The winner could be the one getting the smoothest trip.

Race 10 (10:00 PM EST)

1-Caviart Sargent (6-1)-Camera shy Chris Height trainee should be a big price. This barn seldom wins but did the other night at 48-1. From the rail, Jim Marohn could work an efficient trip and if so, might surprise.
2-Yorokobi N (9/2)-Gets post and class relief plus usual pilot Jordan Stratton gets the call. Hasn't been in this soft since 8-10 and was a winner that night off a cozy trip leaving from the rail.
5-Samhara N (3-1)-Went the back half in 54.2 to post a win on 10-10 and now steps up. Was far back early on and still rolled by down the lane. This time, should be positioned closer to the leaders when the wings fold. The Hudson barn is posting 33% winners over the last 30 days and has cashed the top check at a 23% clip when teamed with ANap.
