Cal Expo has a 9-race card to begin the weekend. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 6 (8:25 PM PST)
1-Treasure Horizon (7/2)-Drew off by >6 lengths on a "good" track versus this kind on 12-13. Likes to get on the engine and not look back. Could follow that plan with this post draw.
5-Senga Nightmare (2-1)-This mare does good work at CalX (53-19-11-5) and comes off an easy win. Steps-up, needs a trip but fits if gets one, and could double up.
Race 7 (8:45 PM PST)
3-Made Of Misschief (5-1)-Got a rough trip from post 10 after winning after arriving from Aces. Has won 5 of 13 at CalX and is in good spot to get a cozy trip at a square price.
4-Cenalta Token (4-1)-Went off at 104-1 last week and finished a distant 6th against better. Not sure the 4-1 morning line is correct, but it is a more comfortable level. This will be the 3rd start in town and will look for better.
Race 8 (9:05 PM PST)
2-I Understand (3-1)-Midwest shipper faced Open company in the 1st start after arriving from Hoosier in a needed race. The 3-year-old should be competitive with this group. Luke Plano will be out and rolling when the wings fold.
5-Sign Of The Times (7/5)-Won the last 2 races by 13 and 12 lengths against this kind. Went off at 1-9 last time and will be close to that price tonight.
Race 9 (9:25 PM PST)
4-Mossies Art (5/2)-Started slowly in the last 2 races and didn't cash a check. Now drops, lands in a very soft spot and this should be go-time.
7-Aston Hill Dave (6/5)-The program chalk got on the point from post 7 and faded down the lane in the 2nd start at CalX. This will be only the 3rd race at CalX for the 10-year-old and the short price is tough to swallow. But this is soft bunch, and the veteran should be a player.
