Hawthorne Racecourse has a 10-race card with the 0.50 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 7, and the sequence will be my focus. Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (9:10 PM CST)

3-Apple Valley (2-1)-Not loving the short price but may have met a beatable field. Needs to finish off the mile and is in a spot to get a more effficient trip.
7-Big Bad Brenda (7-1)-Has been racing from the back and now Brandon Bates takes the lines. Will look for an aggressive steer in a race without much form. Can pass foes down the lane with the right trip.

Race 8 (9:30 PM CST)

6-Allineeizamiracle (10-1)-Will take a swing for a price, makes the 2nd start on Lasix and this is the 2nd race in the Moseley barn. Raced wide in last, moves in a slot and could pop if closer to the leaders off the gate. The trainer also owns and comes right back this time after missing 2 weeks before the last race.
7-Straight Denim (5/2)-Makes the 2nd start for the Crone barn and this outfit is posting 42% winners over the last 30 days. Was far back early in the slop leaving from the 10-hole last time. Kyle Wilfong sticks and should relish the company.

Race 9 (9:50 PM CST)

5-Dragon Perfect (8-1)-In the last 3 starts has finished 2nd-3rd-2nd against the same winner who is not in this field. Needs a smooth steer, but best to respect. The price is right to use and has hit the board in 5 of 6 at Haw with 1 picture.
7-Bet Mine (3-1)-Has been trying hard but was in too tough against Open company. This is a drop and pop situation, and with a decent trip it should be picture time.

Race 10 (10:10 PM CST)

2-Jimmylai (7/2)-Dropped and raced better in last versus similar. Casey Leonard can land in a close-up seat and be the best down the lane.
6-Lifeisbutadream (9/2)-Faces easier and should benedit from the class relief. Can be be a player gainst this field if Juan Franco works a smooth trip. Has the speed to beat this crew but must be in reach of the leaders turning for the wire.
