Cal Expo tops off the weekend with a 9-race card. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:15 PM PST)

3-Daniel's Son (4-1)-Went off as the 6/5 chalk last time and didn't cash a check. Best to respect, comes right back against the same and gets a ++ driver change in James Kennedy.
5-KB Mac (8/5)-This will be the 4th start in town after shipping in from Yonkers. The last 2 efforts have been so-so but drops to a comfortable level. Should be a player but the short price doesn't excite me.
6-Cut A Rug (5-1)-Dropped to this level, left from post 7 and was 10th at the 1st call. Did roll late to finish 3rd and could beat this kind if has less work to do turning for the wire.

Race 7 (8:35 PM PST)

1-Crazy Cute (3-1)-Has raced well in the last 2 starts winning the last time and that included 3 from this group. Logical play should get a cozy trip leaving from the rail.
3-Ain't She Special (6-1)-Ryan Grundy steers the Luke Plano trainee and that should help the price. Knows how to beat this kind and can offer a solid return tonight.
7-Graceful Horizon (8/5)-Lost by a nose at 2/5 last time and now starts outside. Could bounce back and deserves respect. But will be a tiny price and will need to take some air, so the trip might not be smooth.

Race 8 (8:55 PM PST)

1-Jeremys Alibi (2-1)-Another short price that needs to be used but hasn't been reliable. This 5-year-old has the speed to win, should get a good trip and could take a picture if shows the heart to finish off the mile.
7-Lord Willoughby A (3-1)-In a formless race this veteran showed some gumption leaving hard from the 10-hole and was caught wide. The challenge is getting a smoother journey and the upgrade to James Lackey could make a winning difference.

Race 9 (9:15 PM PST)

4-Frewil Dakota Sven (3-1)-Nick Roland has one move to use so he needs to work the the right trip, and he picks here instead on #5. Raced evenly in last and finished 2nd. There is basically 1-horse to beat, will use and look for better.
5-Winwood Jack (8/5)-Got on the engine last week and didn't look back. Luke Plano will use the same game plan. Figures to be a main player at a small price.
