Northfield Park has a 15-race card with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 starting in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool with a low 14% takeout, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 11 (9:40 PM ET)
2-Say Sweet Things (3-1)-This could be an easier field than last time and gets a new pilot in Hunter Myers. Both those
factors should help. Probably needs the right set-up and that could happen by getting a pocket trip behind #7 with Aaron Merriman. Using and will fade the 2-1 morning line chalk the 8-Queen's Castle.
7-Forever Micki (3-1)-Gets a ++ driver change in Merriman. Wins at a 45% clip and when he steers for the Elson Miller barn. Has the gate speed to get the top unless something goes awry, and could make every call a winning one.
Race 12 (10:02 PM ET)
2-Brooklyns Carmine (10-1)-Comes off a decent start from post 8 and couldn't seal the deal in previous races and now moves inside. Did face some well-meant winners who are not in this field and will use with this post draw. Competitive sort could get a suck-around win.
8-The Real Way (4-1)-Meadows shipper has been stuck with outside posts in the last 3 starts. Did beat better at Nfld in November and has the early speed to land on the point. Merriman gets the nod tonight and he won with the Bendis trainee back on 9-29, leaving from post 9.
Race 13 (10:24 PM ET)
2-Sawyer's Desire (2-1)-Finished 3rd versus better and now drops to a level for a picture. Should be no worse than 2nd early in the mile. Hunter Myers should have the veteran in play all the way around.
3-Linnycalledfrankie (5-1)-Drops after outracing its odds to finish 2nd last week at 40-1. Kody Macey needs to provide a sharp steer because a close-up stalking trip could work at a nice price.
9-Down On My Luck (7-1)-This 11-year-old still likes to compete and could pop at a big number but will need things to fall into place at the start. Might be able to tag along behind #2 and get a decent seat. If so, best to respect, drops to a spot to shine.
Race 14 (10:46 PM ET)
4-Our Majordan A (9/5)-Drops after finishing a distant 2nd and now regular pilot Greg Grismore is back in the bike. Should be a main player if the 13-year-old races back to the last start, but the short price is not easy to swallow.
9-Poster Pets (3-1)-Has been dull in the last 4 races, drops and Aaron Merriman sticks. Three of the last 4 starts have been on an-off track and has not won in 14 races on a wet surface. Could get a decent early seat as #2 has some gate speed and this pilot knows how to win from the 2nd tier.
