Cal Expo begins the weekend with a 9-race card. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 6. The sequence has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 6 (8:25 PM PST)

1-Nebble Hanover (5-1)-Was in the deep water against Open company and should be heard from tonight. Luke Plano will use the rail to his advantage and have in play off the gate.
2-Wavzeka (8-1)-Has hit the board against better in the last 2 starts. Should be in the hunt, and could seal the deal down the stretch at this class. Using and hoping the morning line price stands up.
4-Jericho Willie (7/2)-Raced well to finish 2nd and the trip didn't help. Gets a positive driver change in James Kennedy and is a threat if comes with another determined effort.

Race 7 (8:45 PM PST)

3-Jackie Boy (5/2)-Takes a drop that could make a winning difference and has won 2 of 8 at CalX. Can be a main player with the right trip and usual pilot Brett Erickson is back between the pipes.
6-Hoo Nien A (3-1)-Beat this kind on an off-track as the 8/5 chalk and took control off the gate last week. Jim Lackey should get a good early seat and be in the hunt at the wire.

Race 8 (9:05 PM PST)

3-Pecorino (5/2)-Beaten favorite was pace compromised on a sloppy track and came 3rd. Needed to be closer to the lead and will assume the sloppy track made a difference. Off-track record is 1-26, and is back in against mostly the same field. The two horses that finished 1-2 last week are not in this group.

Race 9 (9:25 PM PST)

4-Gandalf (6-1)-There was a false start before the last race and afterwards the team Roland pupil was scratched injured. Liked him last week and will use right back in its 2nd start on Lasix.
5-Robbie Burns N (8/5)-Team Plano entry has hit the board in the last 4 starts and they were all at this level. Needs to find a bit more late in the mile and that could happen versus this field.
