Al Cimaglia: Cal Expo Late Pick 4 Analysis | Saturday, February 8, 2025

February 8, 2025

Cal Expo has a 10-race card that kicks off with the 0.20 Pick 5 that has a $20,000 guaranteed pool. The 0.20 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 7. It has a $25,000 guaranteed pool with a 16% takeout, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7 (8:35 PM PST)

5-Alilthundadownunda (5/2)-Has been in the hunt and trying hard versus Open company. Hasn't been able to seal the deal and could be overlooked. Nick Roland will have the veteran in play and in the mix at the wire.
6-Dancin Lance (5/1)-Got on the engine in an aggressive try on a sloppy track but faded down the lane. Should be better on a dry track and the Pacheco barn has been clicking in the last 30 days.
7-Unfiltered (2-1)-Rolled the back half in 56.3 to win last week on a sloppy track. Best to respect, could double up tonight.

Race 8 (8:55 PM PST)

4-Daniel's Son (7/5)-Took the wide way home last time to take its 2nd straight picture. Shouldn't have an issue making it 3 in a row with a fair trip at a small price. This will be the 3rd straight start at the same condition and could make the most of the opportunity.

Race 9 (9:15 PM PST)

3-Rockin The Dragon (5/2)-Tried to go gate to wire on a sloppy track into a headwind. That plan failed and finished a well beaten 4th. Will look for better under improved conditions and could offer a square price.
5-Powderhouse (2-1)-Didn't show well in the slop and it wasn't a shock with a 1-9 record on an off-track. Recent trips have been bumpy, will look for a big try and the short field should help.

Race 10 (9:35 PM PST)

5-Always A Warrior (2-1)-Comes off an impressive win on a sloppy track from post 8. Gets a positive driver change in Nick Roland and the post relief should help as well. Won't offer any value this time but should be a player and best to not overlook.
