Yonkers Raceway has an 11-race card. The $1.00 Pick 5 rolls in Race 5, and it has a $10,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 starts in Race 8, and it will be my focus.
Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.
Race 8 (9:05 PM EDT)
1-Binge on Yankee (3-1)-The Gillis pupil has been sharp this year despite not drawing the rail until now. Left from post 5 and didn’t look back in last and now steps up. May get the point again but if not should be in the pocket and that could work for a picture as well at a fair price.
2-Verdun (9/2)-Now drops, and Pat Lachance hasn’t been able to work the right trip against Invites in the 3 starts off the bench. This is not an easy field but should fit better. Draws the 2 hole, should land in one of the top 2 spots off the gate tonight and could finally be the best down the lane.
Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)
2-Rhyds Superfly GB (6/5)-The Shane Tritton import is seeking its 6th straight. Hasn’t lost since landing at Yonkers and has made it look easy. This group could be more of a challenge but will still single. With a fair trip this should be win # 7 in 2025, and will probably be on the lead throughout.
Race 10 (9:45 PM DT)
5-Twiggs Pub (2-1)-Didn't really have an excuse on 3-10, got the top leaving from the rail but missed by a head, and has been off since. Jason Bartlett steers again, and if ready to go should have an easier time of getting on the engine.
6-Caughtinalandslide (6-1)-Has hit the board in 6 of 7 this year and this race could set up for someone coming off cover. Austin Siegelman should be stalking close to the leaders and could finish best of all.
Race 11 (10:05 PM DT)
3-Rockin Jukebox (8-1)-Joe B entry makes the 4th start off the bench and could be ready to show some early speed this time. Could see Siegelman leaving and getting a pocket ride and at this price is worth a swing.
4-Always A Thrill (2-1)-Shipped in from PcD riding a 2-race win streak and then won its 1st start at Yonkers by over 6 lengths. Steps up again, will respect chances of winning again but will also include others with more value.
5-Dunkin (5-1)-Came off the bench and raced well in all 3 starts and finished 2nd each time. There is speed inside but should get away with a decent seat. Could be overlooked and does good work at Yonkers (27-6-7-4). Could pop at a solid price if George Brennan provides a sharp drive,
