Al Cimaglia: Yonkers Raceway Late Pick 4 Analysis | Monday, April 7, 2025

April 7, 2025

Yonkers Raceway has a 12-race card with the $1.00 Pick 5 starting in Race 5, and the sequence has a $20,000 guaranteed pool. The $2.00 Late Pick 4 rolls in Race 9, and the sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 9 (9:25 PM EDT)

1-Verdun (7/2)-Pat Lachance found a way to win coming from the backfield but had to roll a 53.4 2nd half. Can be much closer to the lead tonight and should be right there at the wire.
2-Charlie May (9/2)-Charlie has trouble winning at Yonkers, is 0-4 and has finished 2nd twice. David Miller should be able to get the top. Going gate to wire could happen leaving from post 2 as the rail horse, Verdun doesn’t have big gate speed. Will use and hope the 9/2 ML holds up.
6-Mossdale Ben N (3-1)-This is quite a NZ bred, has won 5 straight on the Hilltop and 2 victories came when leaving from post 6. Never has had the lead off the gate and should be rolling hard down the lane again, and if the fractions are spicy the win streak could continue.

Race 10 (9:45 PM EDT)

3-Final Cheeserecipe (6-1)-This will be the 3rd start for the Laterza barn and has drawn the 6/7 post in the last 2 races. Those efforts were against straight $30k claimers and this could be a bit easier. May have met a beatable field and the post relief could be the winning difference. Has hit the board in 19 of 37 at YR with 6 pictures and should be a solid price.
4-Music Hall (9/5)-Team Joe B entry won from the 8-hole in last with Yannick Gingras at the controls. Joe B steers tonight and is a logical use at a small price.

Race 11 (10:05 PM EST)

1-Mach N Cheese (7/2)-Left hard from post 6 and was hung the mile against this kind on 3-26. Tonight, Jason Bartlett gets the nod, and the trip should be much smoother. Draws inside and the 7/2 morning line looks too high.
5-BB Lucky Boy (5/2)-This is a risky play, has broke at the start in 2 of the last 3 races. Now drops from $50k claimers to face the $40k kind. Did win 3 back at this level, even after breaking stride at the start.

Race 12 (10:25 PM EST)

1-Jett Star N (9/2)-Will fade #2-Speed Man the 9/5 chalk looking for its 3rd straight and moving up. Will look for the team Cushing veteran to get a cozy trip and then take advantage of some lively fractions. Has won 3 of 5 at YR and could roll by down the lane at a square price.
6-Ultimaroca (8-1)-The Gillis entry is 0-10 this year and deserves the record. But has started from an outside post in 6 of the races and faced better than this in most of the starts. Dropped to this level last week, left from post 7 and was 13 lengths back at the 1st call. Did pace the back half in 54.4 and that was on a sloppy track. Comes back in sequence this time and has only 2 wins in 16 starts on an off-track. Needs a trip and will look for Scott Zeron to provide an aggressive steer at a big number.
